Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta nominated Satish Upadhyay, the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Malviya Nagar constituency as the vice-chairman of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB).
The Speaker also nominated two more MLAs, Manoj Kumar Shokeen from the Nangloi Jat constituency and Ajay Kumar Mahawar from the Ghonda constituency, as the members of the DJB.
An order to this effect has been issued by the Delhi Legislative Assembly Secretariat.

“Institutions managing water must function with accountability and public purpose,” said the Assembly speaker.
The nomination has been done as per the provisions of section 3(2)(i) and 3(2)(iii) of Delhi Water Board Act, 1998, a bulletin of the legislative assembly secretariat released on Monday read.
Expressing confidence in the newly-nominated representatives, Gupta said their public experience and institutional understanding would contribute meaningfully to strengthening the water board’s functioning and improving responsiveness to public concerns.
He added that sustained policy attention, coordinated governance, and active public participation would remain essential for building a more water-secure and environmentally resilient Delhi in the years ahead.
The water board with the recent reforms in its working is focusing on resolving longstanding disputes regarding billing, improving wastewater management, and also works are underway to improve water supply, especially in those areas that faced difficulties earlier.
Currently, the DJB is headed by Cabinet Minister Parvesh Verma, who is the national capital’s water minister who is the Chairman of DJB, apart from his other portfolios including PWD, Legislative Affairs, Irrigation and Flood Control, and Gurudwara Elections.
Vice-Chairperson is an important position when it comes to running the water board, and carries out all the duties, functions of the chairman in their absence.
